The Recycling Center
Along with curbside recycling, UP Refuse offers a convenient Recycling Center for larger quantities of recyclables for University Place and Fircrest residents. Please bring along proof of residency with your drop offs. Our Recycling Center is located at our main office, at 2815 Rochester, University Place, WA 98466 (one block off 27th Street West, behind Cheers West). Recycling Center hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Scrap metal and appliance recycling is only available from Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.--2:00 p.m. due to the special needs of this kind of recycling.

PAPER Newspaper, Magazines, Junk Mail, Cardboard, Cereal Boxes, Phone Books, Office Paper, Paper Milk-style Cartons, etc. Contaminated items such as pizza boxes, paper plates, paper towels, etc. cannot be recycled.
PLASTIC BOTTLES All plastic bottles that have a neck that is narrower than the body. No lids, tubs or bags. Examples of plastic bottles we accept: milk jugs, soda bottles, shampoo bottles, bleach & fabric softeners bottles, cooking oil bottles, detergent bottles, salad dressing bottles and water bottles. Remember, check the neck. Please remove the lids or caps on all bottles.
We don't accept: plastic tubs (margarine, yogurt & ice-cream containers), plant pots, pails, plastic utensils, plastic jars (such as peanut butter and mayonnaise containers), plastic grocery bags, plastic or styrofoam packing peanuts, styrofoam containers and egg cartons, or any other plastic containers that have a wide opening. Also, pesticide bottles and automotive product bottles (oil, transmission fluid, etc.) are difficult to clean and contaminate our plastics, so please don't recycle those items.
CANS Tin and aluminum cans. Please empty and rinse out food residue. Crushing is optional.
GLASS JARS & BOTTLES Please remove lids; labels don't need to be removed. Please rinse to avoid odors, and attracting insects or animals.
We cannot accept: plate glass, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, Pyrex or other kitchen cookware.
SCRAP METALS Includes steel, aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel. Please check with the office first.
We cannot accept: tanks, barrels, drums, or canisters (any metal container with the ends closed) water heaters are o.k.

APPLIANCES We accept washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, etc. There is a handling & environmental compliance fee depending on the type of appliance. Please call the office to find out fees and details for appliance recycling.
